IMPORTANT CHANGES: Please read the following information from our Bocce Event Chair.
All Bocce Coaches and HOD’s - Spring is in the air which means that the Annual MMA Bocce Tournament is upon us. This year’s tournament will be just a little different, instead of 1 large, multi-team tournament; we will have 6 different mini-tournaments.
Due to the large number of teams, and the short time frame, we will be capping the tournament at 60 teams. We ask that please, no more than 10 teams per agency max. With 60 teams, we will make a 6, ten team tournaments. 6 different winners will be named instead of just 1. All divisions will be random drawings.
We also ask that no more than 2 MMA partners per agency, to insure all teams have a chance to play with a few students due to the fact that we can’t know how many students we will actually have till that morning of play.
As in the past few years, we will have a time limit for each game. Matches will play 15 minute games. At the end of 15 minutes, the team with the most points moves on. Reminder, the FULL 15 minutes will be played. Games will not end if a team reaches 7. Most points after 15 moves on.
Athletes must have a current Athlete Medical and Consent/Release on file with SOMaine prior to April 18th in order to be properly registered for this event. Track & Field Clinic (10am-12pm) for all Special Olympics Maine Athletes offered by Bowdoin College's Student Athlete Advisory Council. This will be a fun clinic organized and run by Bowdoin College Student Athletes that will help improve your athletes skills in a variety of Track & Field events. Deadline to register is April 17th. Special Olympics Cumberland County Area Track and Field Meet 2019
When: Friday April 26, 2019 (Rain date May 3)
Where: Bonny Eagle Athletic Facilities, Standish, Maine
Medical: Coaches must have submitted to the state office and bring medical and release forms day of event for athletes to participate. You will be asked to sign an acknowledgement that you in fact have them with you. Athlete releases are good for life and medicals are good for 3 years from date of physician’s signature. Coaches: You should all have filled out the Class A volunteer form and taken the behaviors training online. More info contact Ian Frank at state office 879-0489
Again this year: We will be presenting place ribbons as opposed to participation ribbons as mandated by Special Olympics rules. Award areas for presentation of ribbons immediately after all running events can be found on attached map. Ribbons for all field events will be mailed out after the event. It is extremely important that all athletes run in their assigned heats there will be no changing of heats allowed. Please help out by making everyone involved with your teams aware of this
Parade/ Opening Ceremonies: Begin at 9:20 Teams please line up at end of track near registration (bring posters identifying teams if you have some)
Day of Event: ONE PERSON FROM EACH TEAM SHOULD Sign in beginning at 8:15 am we will be set up near the end of track as marked on enclosed map. When you arrive you will receive a packet containing a letter, names tag for athletes (already filled out), name tags for coaches and chaperones, additional copies of map (please copy and make maps available to all coaches and people who will be bringing athletes ahead of their arrival) and a copy of your registration.
AGAIN THIS YEAR- Athletes will be lining up in staging tents not at starting lines (see map)
There will be concessions available for athletes, families, and coaches to buy snacks, lunch items, and drinks. There will be an activity area for athletes to help pass the time between events.
We are selling Event Shirts this year -- they are not dated (so timeless!) There will be a limited selection at the games but you can sign up here to have your size and order ready for easy pick up!
PLEASE Remember that this event is for our athletes and being flexible is the key to have it be successful for everyone; many people are volunteering their time and energy. There are two drop off points for Special Olympics Athletes this year -
Buses will park at the Bus Garage which is accessible to the track area by a short walk. Additional parking will be available at the Free Will Baptist church about a mile from the facilities with a shuttle available from 9:30-10:30 and again from 12:15-1:15Please take bus drivers phone numbers to aid in communication.

To register your delegation for this event, please use the links provided below to access the online registration forms.
Delegations are required to provide qualifying scores for all events their athletes compete in. Qualifying scores should be obtained by completing the required training and will be used to properly division events by age and ability. All measurements must be in METRIC.

Events offered- 50M Run, 100M Run, 200M Run, 400M Run, 800M Run, Mile Run, 1K Walk, Shot Put, Softball Throw, Running Long Jump and Standing Long Jump. (Relay teams are a separate form, see below)
Athletes may register for up to three events plus a relay. If an athlete registers for more than three individual events, they will be dropped from the easiest event.
IMPORTANT: Athletes may participate in only two of these 3 events: Softball Throw, 50M Run, or Standing Long Jump. Athletes in the Running Long Jump must be able to jump 1 meter to make it into the sand. Athletes with a mile time over 12 minutes are encouraged to register for a shorter distance (800M, 400M, or 200M) due to time constraints. Athletes in the Shot Put may not compete in the Softball Throw; and athletes in the Running Long Jump may not compete in the Standing Long Jump.
Unified Relay and 4x100 Relay Team Registration: 2019 Unified Relay & 4x100 Relay Team Registration Form
Unified teams are to consist of 2 Athletes and 2 Unified Partners. Please enter athletes in the desired race order, example Entrant 1 will run leg 1 of the relay. As a reminder coaches are not permitted to compete on a Unified Relay.
Motor Activities Registration: 2019 Motor Activities Registration Form
Events offered- 10M Walk, 25M Walk, 100M Walk, 25M Wheelchair Race, 25M Motorized Wheelchair Race, 50M Wheelchair Race, 50M Motorized Wheelchair Race, 30M Wheelchair Slalom, 30M Motorized Wheelchair Slalom, Motor Activities Softball Throw.
Motor Activities are for athletes with physical impairments, who use walkers or wheelchairs or who are aging and slowing down. Athletes who prefer walking over running as a sport may also register in this category. Athletes may register up to three events. During wheelchair races athletes may not be pushed/pulled or assisted during the race. This venue also includes a Softball Throw. Athletes registered in Motor Activities, must use the Motor Activities Softball Throw. Athletes registered in Motor Activities are not eligible to register for the traditional events.
Athletes must have a current Athlete Medical and Consent/Release on file with SOMaine prior to May 1st in order to be properly registered for this event. The Release form was recently update in 2017. Any athlete with a Release form signed prior to January 1st, 2017 must submit a new updated consent/release.
It is important to be training now in order for athletes to be properly prepared for competition. Encourage your athletes to do stretching and warm-up activities. Encourage athletes to outdo their own best time/measurement or to train for new or more challenging events. Athletes in Motor Activities must also be trained in their chosen sport. Don’t forget to record times and measurements during practices as accurate scores are essential for creating well matched heats.
