April is an exciting month for aquatics! Sign up for pool time today! Special Olympics Maine is planning virtual swim training, with in and out of water practice as well as a virtual swim competition in the month of April. To go along with this, we wanted to help area programs find available pool time as we understand it can be challenging given many facilities have new COVID related restrictions and are limiting guests. The Bangor YMCA has generously offered pool time reserved for our area athletes and their coaches.

Pool availability starts April 6th- April 29th, Tuesdays & Thursdays. Teams can sign up for time blocks at 11-12pm, 2-3pm or 3-4pm (please note the 10-11am time block is not available due to a conflict). Two teams of 5 will be permitted in each 1 hour time block. If you have more than five, you can reserve both sections for that time. At no time can we exceed 10 Special Olympics participants (including athletes, coaches, staff, spectators). You may also reserve multiple dates for the month, we just ask that you let us know if you need to cancel so that we can open the time block up to others. Please do not select a date that states “RESERVED” as this time block has already been filled.

During your training time it is necessary that all Special Olympics R2P Phase 1 protocols are being followed, in addition to the procedures and rules of the Bangor YMCA.

Athlete requirements for participation: Up to date Medicals & Consent forms and COVID-19 Code of Conduct form. Coaches/Staff/Volunteers:  COVID Code of Conduct form, HOD/Head Coach that is present at the training to complete COVID-19 Response Person form and Screening/Tracking form. If individuals have already completed a COVID Code of Conduct form, they do not need to do so again.

Masks are to be worn at all times, except when in the pool. Upon arrival to the YMCA teams will be asked to sign in and will be screened for COVID symptoms. They will then proceed to the locker rooms. On the pool deck masks are required until entry into the water. It may be helpful to bring small plastic bags to store masks when not in use. The YMCA has a limit of no more than 3 people in a lane at a time. Depending on available space, it is recommended to leave a lane in between to help distance from others.

If you are unable to make the reserved time below please email Christina Ehrhard, pphtina@somaine.org so that we can open that time up to others. There is no cost to athletes for this training time. Make sure to thank a Bangor YMCA employee while there!
