2021 PPH Virtual Bocce
Event Date: April 19th- April 30th
Registration Due: April 12, 2021
Event Chair: Jeff Bosse, jbosse10@gmail.com
GMS Coordinator: Christina Ehrhard, pphtina@somaine.org
This year our Bocce Event will be held virtually from Monday, April 19th thru Friday, April 30th. Given guidelines and current levels of participation across our area delegations, we will have two options for participation and will follow all Return to Play Protocols for Phase 1(no more than 10 people at a time, masks, social distancing and proper sanitation, S.O. paperwork, etc). Please note that the safety of all involved is our priority. Please read the below information in its entirety and contact us with any questions. Instructions and links to all online registration forms are below and will also be available on the somaine.org calendar of events.
Virtual Area Bocce- Option A (Skills Competition using the BOSAT):
This option is for athletes that are training in bocce, have access to official bocce equipment and either have access to a bocce court at their home/school/agency or are able to travel to the community court in Hampden. The Hampden court is located off of Canoe Club Road behind the Hampden VFW.
Teams will need to select either use of a “home” court or Hampden Court. Participants at the Hampden court will need to select a Time Block to ensure we do not exceed the SOME limit of 10 participants (athletes, coaches, staff etc.).
Time Blocks Available: Monday 4/19- 4/30, one hour per group.
Teams will need to supply bocce equipment and tape measures.
Option A Events Offered:
- Individual Bocce
- Doubles Bocce
Scores will be obtained using the Bocce Skill Assessment Test (BOSAT). Athletes will roll 8 balls and their three best scoring balls (closest distance of the ball to the pallina) for each trail distance (30ft, 40ft, 50ft) will total their cumulative score. The BOSAT is similar to how you would obtain a qualifying score for state competition. Click here for Option A- Competition Instructions.
Athletes will then be divisioned by event, age group and score, certificates will be awarded.

Virtual Area Bocce- Option B (Backyard Bocce Skills Practice):
This is an at home option with the emphasis on participation and skill development through bocce or bocce-like practice. Athletes may use any equipment they have around the house (such as softball, tennis ball, toy ball, golf ball, etc) if they do not have access to official bocce equipment. Short game skills (30ft), Mid game skills (40ft) and Long game skills (50ft) can be practiced by pacing the pallina at the various distances as well as placing 4 “opponent balls” around the pallina. After the athlete throws all 4 balls, points are awarded for each of their balls closer to the pallina vs the opponent balls. Participation certificates will be mailed.
