Unified Bocce Team Competition
Message from the Bocce Event Chair:
Thanks to all of your efforts and help, our Unified Bocce Tournament at Maine Maritime Academy has become one of best, if not the best, in the state! However it has also become one of the biggest. We had well over 70 teams last year! With the number of bocce courts, as well as MMA’s own practice schedules and time constraints, we need to limit the number of teams allowed this year.
We are asking for no more than 5 Unified teams per agency/school. You may register more if you wish, however after the first 5 teams on your registration, the remaining teams will be entered into the tournament as space permits. We hate to do this, but given the number of courts, as well as MMA’s time, it is necessary in order to continue with a successful tournament, within a certain time frame.
If you have any questions about this feel free to contact me at jbosse10@gmail.com. Thank you for your help and understanding.
-Jeff Bosse

ATHLETE BOCCE TRAINING: If you are in need of assistance to locate an indoor space for training or need equipment feel free to contact us. As we move out of winter and the snow clears, there is an outdoor bocce court in Hampden. This court was designed for Special Olympics use and was built by Levi Husson in memory of Daniel Scott. It is located behind the Hampden VFW at 41 Canoe Club Rd.

Head of Delegation: This person is responsible for the entire delegation including; athletes, head coaches and assistant coaches. This person will send and receive pertinent information to and from Special Olympics regarding; registration forms, athlete unified partner and coach requirements.
Head Coach Requirements: Every delegation must assign one certified head coach for every sport that they have athletes competing in. This person is responsible for the entire sports team training including; athletes, unified partners and assistant coaches.

Medicals & Consent Forms: ALL Athletes must have current medical & consent forms on file at Special Olympics Maine’s State Office. It is your responsibility to ensure that these (2) (current/completed) forms are on file at the state office, for every athlete you plan to bring to the games. If we already have a medical on file for an athlete and it is less than three years old, you don’t need a new one, unless there has been a significant physical/medical change in one of your athletes. You may email Mike Littlefield at MikeL@somaine.org to check on medicals in your file. We recommend that you make two additional copies of each medical/release form – keep one file of all medicals in a safe place and have a file with all your athletes’ medicals that travels with you to events. Blank Medical and Consent Forms can be downloaded by going to our website: www.somaine.org/sports/athlete-resources/.
Unified Sports Partner Release: Release forms are required for all Unified Partners. These forms are available here: Unified Partner Release Form
The above information and Bocce registration links will be available on the somaine.org website by selecting the 4/16 event date on the Calendar of Events.
