Event Date: January 30 & 31, 2024

Registration Due: January 9, 2024

The Penobscot, Piscataquis & Hancock Area Candlepin Pin Bowling event will be held in person at the Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes in Brewer. Qualifying scores are required to register.  Athletes will bowl two games and will receive a ribbon award at the event.

Events Offered:

Individual Bowling

Ramp Bowling

Assisted Ramp Bowling

Unified Doubles Team Bowling (1 athlete & 1 Unified Partner)*

*(If a Unified Doubles Team requires a ramp, please write in “Ramp” after their qualifying score)

Tuesday 1/30 (Schools AM, Adults PM)*

Wednesday 1/31 (Adults AM & PM)*

Times: 9am-3:30pm (Seperated into 2-3 sessions per day)

*All athletes will be divisioned by age and ability not delegation. For schools this will mean athletes will be spread across lanes. For agencies, you may have some athletes competing Tuesday PM and some Wednesday. This change was based on feedback from coaches, the growing numbers of participants and in keeping consistent with State bowling. We understand it will require different staffing but hopefully will provide the most meaningful competition.

Candlepin Bowling Resources including a coaching guide and rules & regulations can be found here. We do not use cross lane bowling for candlepin.

Registration Process!

Special Olympics Maine, as well as our PPH Area program, is piloting a new registration format for Head of Delegations. HODs will now be using Excel to complete full Delegation Registrations! This will allow the HOD to see their full roster (Coaches AND Athletes) at one time. HODs will be able to save a copy of their registration to their computer for their record, along with being able to work on rosters periodically leading up to the deadline, instead of completing registrations online without being able to save their progress!

To Register Your Delegation:

Step 1: Complete an HOD information form here.

Step 2: View Team Registration Excel using this link

Step 3: Download a copy of the Registration Excel to your computer by selecting File, then Save As, and Save As your Delegation Name-Candlepin for the file name

Step 4: Complete a row for each Delegation member (HOD, Coach, Assistant Coaches, Athletes & Unified Partners). Complete all necessary YELLOW HIGHLIGHTED columns only. Qualifying score required.

Step 5: Save your completed registration copy

Step 6: Email final Delegation registration to pphtina@somaine.org by 1/9 (Please put your Delegation Name-Candlepin Registration in the email subject line- thank you!)

If you have any questions regarding the registration process for our PPH Area Candlepin Bowling event, please email pphtina@somaine.org.

Tips for using the excel spreadsheet:

  • Editing of the original link has been blocked, you must download a copy and enable editing of the copy.
  • The information you enter on the spreadsheet will be imported into our Games Management System (vs being manually entered as done previously). It is VERY important to include complete and accurate spellings of names and accurate DOB for all participants (including coaches) so that GMS does not create a different individual profile.
  • Incomplete forms with missing DOBs, events, qualifying scores, etc. will not be accepted.
  • Complete one line for each participant. If the participant has two roles (ex. HOD & Certified Head Coach please enter their name on two lines.
  • Be consistent with your delegation name (so GMS does not create separate delegations for you)
  • Do not modify the format of this spreadsheet.
  • Unified Doubles teams will need a team name for each (ex. Amicus-1, Amicus-2 etc.). A qualifying score should be entered for each teammate as their individual score.
  • We are here to help troubleshoot, and are learning as well to smooth out any kinks!
