Important Return to Play Update!

On August 1st we released our Return to Play protocols and noted that we would return to small group trainings/practices under our Phase 1 guidelines. Since that date, and through the end of this year, we have remained in Phase 1, while continually assessing the situation in order to determine whether it is safe for our program (athletes, coaches, volunteers) to advance to Phase 2, remain in Phase 1, or move back to Phase 0.

Now that we are at year-end, under the guidance of Special Olympics Inc; with numbers of COVID-19 cases still rising in Maine (across the country and around the world), more community restrictions in place and continued low (or no) Local Program participation, SOME has made the decision to stay in our R2P Phase 1 protocols through the end of February 2021 (Jan 1-Feb 28) with the safety of all, as our most important outcome.

Special Olympics Maine is continuing to work on virtual (individualized) activities going into the winter months, such as our Winter Sports Training Program set to kick off on January 4th that we know will continue to help athletes during Phase 1 stay physically and mentally fit, while also being able to connect with others from around the state.
Please do share this information and update with your athletes and their families. As always contact Special Olympics Maine with any questions, concerns or needs.
Thank you,
The Special Olympics Maine Team
