Where Maine comes together to celebrate the power of sport

For many athletes, the State Summer Games are the highlight of the year. A weekend that celebrates months of hard work, lifelong friendships, and the joy of belonging.

Every June, more than 2,000 athletes, Unified Partners, coaches, volunteers, and families gather for the Special Olympics Maine State Summer Games- the largest celebration of inclusion in the state.

For one unforgettable weekend, athletes showcase months of hard work, compete alongside teammates and friends, experience Healthy Athletes® screenings, celebrate at dances and ceremonies, and create memories that last a lifetime.

The State Summer Games are more than a competition they’re a celebration of community, and belonging.

Competition

Athletes compete in Athletics (Track & Field) and Bocce, while our youngest participants celebrate their achievements at the Young Athletes Festival.

From first-time competitors to seasoned athletes, every event celebrates determination, teamwork, and personal bests.

More than sports

The excitement continues beyond competition.

Throughout the weekend, participants enjoy:

  • Opening Ceremonies
  • Healthy Athletes® screenings
  • Olympic Village activities
  • Athlete Dance
  • Team meals
  • Campus living
  • Lasting friendships and unforgettable memories

Every part of the weekend is designed to celebrate athletes and create a true sense of community.
