Where inclusion
BEGINS.
The first step in a lifetime of confidence, friendships, and fun.
Young Athletes™ is an early childhood sport and play program for children ages 2–7, with and without intellectual disabilities. Through fun, age-appropriate activities, children develop motor skills, build confidence, make friends, and discover the joy of being active in an inclusive environment.
Families can participate in local Young Athletes programs throughout Maine, use the free Young Athletes curriculum and app at home, and celebrate their child’s growth at one of our annual Young Athletes Festivals held across the state each spring.

Young Athletes Festivals
Each spring, Special Olympics Maine hosts three Young Athletes Festivals across the state to celebrate the hard work, growth, and achievements of children participating in the Young Athletes program.
These fun, inclusive events give young athletes the opportunity to showcase the skills they’ve been practicing, celebrate with their families, and experience the excitement of being part of the Special Olympics community.
